The letter, which initially expresses displeasure over President Barack Obama’s position regarding the mosque site, states that the president should keep in mind his country “is losing thousands of American lives and billions of dollars” from the war in Afghanistan. “The enemy is made up of jihad Muslims,” he adds.

Do you know who else has a stake in the war effort happening there? Millions of Muslims who want nothing more than to live in a peaceful state. No doubt it’s a bloody battle, and the outcome of those efforts might remain unclear decades from now, but the intention is there to help the people of Afghanistan have a better tomorrow.

Ideally, that’s a future that will allow for people to live freely. What sort of message would it send to those Muslims in Afghanistan if Americans were unable to let fellow followers of the Islam faith freely choose where to practice their religion?

There will always be a lot of emotions attached to Ground Zero, as the former site of the World Trade Centre is now known. Unnecessary mistrust is best avoided entirely.
