All the same

Does our provincial government show any consideration towards those who have a serious handicap? Ok, any kind of handicap? I bet that they do a small lot to help those people. Look at what they did to the hard of hearing. They closed their school.

Topics :
School for the Deaf , Williams and Company

They weren't putting out enough money for the School for the Deaf. That is why they closed it. Now that they are putting the hard of hearing students in a regular school, and the cost is going to be way more.

Now will a hard of hearing person fit into a regular school? I'm not an expert on this matter. But I do know a lot. You see, I'm partially hard of hearing. I have had trouble all my life with my hearing. On times it darn near drove me foolish. Other times, the public darn near drove me off my head.

A hard of hearing person will fit in just about anywhere. It all depends on the company he or she is with. The people of today are the same as the people of yesterday. In every generation, there are those who love to abuse, verbal and physical, the hard of hearing person.

I went through a lot when I was growing up. If it wasn't for my Uncle and a few close friends, I would never have made it. Do you know what it is like to tell the teacher that you did not hear what was said, and then be told to learn to listen.

If you think that laughter doesn't hurt you, think again. Laughter can cut through you like a knife. -

Now how can a hard of hearing person learn to listen. A hard of hearing person is not too lazy to hear. We are just hard of hearing.

Hard of hearing people also have trouble with their speech. I was partially hard of hearing, and I still have trouble with mine. School sounds like tools. Friday comes out like Friherday. I used to hear and see the laughter whenever I used to open my mouth. If you think that laughter doesn't hurt you, think again. Laughter can cut through you like a knife.

In all schools from all walks of life, there are students who like to harass those who are different. Now just because they are hard of hearing doesn't mean they are stupid. It is the ones who harass them who are stupid. But the big question is, will the other students stick up for the hard of hearing.

The times have changed and people are understanding the various handicaps people have. People are more educated and don't class people as being stupid, very far from it. The same for MS, its a physical element, has nothing to do with intelligence. The handicapped are quite intelligent and can be intergrated into schools, universities, and the workforce. There needs to be speciaized communication skills which are available throught the CNIB,etc. Many of us grew up in an era of misunderstanding and ignorance. I am sure that kids today accept their handicapped friends more, as they are more tolerant as well. We have gone pass the times of "poor me". You don't see rocks being thrown at people and centered out and laughted at.
