What’s up with Premier Williams?

Why is Premier Danny Williams so darn popular? Now I know why the women like him so much. They think he is good looking. Is he good looking? My God, every time I see him he reminds me of a flounder. The bay noddies know what I mean. I mean the flat fish with the mouth on one side of it face.

Topics :
The Premier , Ottawa , Newfoundland and Labrador , George Street

Danny is a make-believe fighter. He took lessons from Brian Peckford. Joey Smallwood was the same way. Whenever those two wanted the support of the voters, all they had to do was fight against Ottawa.

We outport noddies love a good fight. Now I don't mean a knock down bare-knuckle brawl. That belongs to George Street in St. John's. Here in the outports, we like the verbal shouting matches. Why, I've seen my two Uncles spending the whole day, each on his own side the fence, daring the other to come over. It was worth looking at. Every once in a while, one of them would make an effort to jump the fence. But they never did get over. I think it was because they weren't wearing their mountain climbing equipment.

Both of them are dead now. If they were alive, they would worship the ground that Premier Williams walks on. You see, neither of them voted for Confederation. One voted against it and the other didn't vote.

Is Williams fighting for Newfoundland and Labrador, or is he fighting for himself? What has he done for Newfoundland outports. He hasn’t let out one peep about the fishery. Every time he stands up against Ottawa, it is for the oil. And who is getting the benefit of those oil wells? It is easy to see. The Avalon, especially St. John’s, is getting all the spin-offs from those oil wells.

The fishery is struggling along, but oil production is booming. But how long will those oil wells last? Those wells are not renewable like the cod.

I just got a brilliant idea. It is something that just might work. Instead of drilling holes all over the Earth, why don't we turn the cod liver into fuel? Why not? I know a fellow who use moonshine in his car.

And not only cod liver. There is also the seal oil. Both of them are good for your health. So why can't they be good for the vehicles.

More jealously from the 'outport crowd'. It isn't all about the outports, St. John's does make up the majority of the province's population and obviously leads the province economically and in every other regard. Why save the dying, pointless subsided fishery where people can work for a week or two and then draw Employment Insurance for the other 50 weeks in a year? All rural Newfoundlanders do is complain about St. John's.
