HNB down HNL 13-1, finish round robin undefeated

Hockey New Brunswick Moncton Office Interiors Ricoh Rockets finished the round robin with a perfect 4-0 at the 2010 Midget Atlantic Female Hockey Championships by defeating Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador 13-1 Saturday night.

The win solidified first place for the Rockets, and put them in the gold medal game against Hockey Nova Scotia Metro Boston Pizza.

HNL will play Hockey Prince Edward Island Western Wind for the bronze.

The Rockets took control early, and never relinquished its stranglehold on the team from Western Newfoundland. HNB scored five goals in the first, four more in the second and added four in the third. Janik Robichaud led all scorers with five points, while Schyler Campbell, Josee Cormier, Natasha Goudreau and Chelsea MacNeil pitched in with three points each.

Kristen Cooze scored the lone goal for HNL.

HNB had goals from five different players in the first, as Goudreau, MacNeil, Cormier, Campbell and Erin Wallace all ruffled the twine in the opening 20 minutes.

Robichaud scored twice to start the second, while Cormier added a single, and HNB was off to an 8-0 lead. Cooze broke the shutout late in the period, but Gabrielle Poirier scored another for HNB to end the period.

Robichaud scored anothet two in the third to give her four in the contest, while Monica Ouellette and Goudreau added singles.

Megan Blacquiere turned away 21 shots to preserve the win, while Johanna Elliot and Julia Williams played 30 minutes each for HNL.
