While he said the quantity of drugs seized was “not significant,” Sgt. Flynn said the RCMP’s ability to halt the group’s operations will have an impact.
As for the war on drugs, Sgt. Flynn said in his 15 years involved with investigating illegal narcotics, he has witnessed a pattern that comes with arrests.
“Whenever you disrupt one group, it has been my experience there’s another one waiting in the wings. So, I think this will impact Gander and the surrounding area – there’s no doubt about that.”
With each search comes intelligence, said Sgt. Flynn, and with that comes potential leads that may result in future arrests.
“There are times when the volume of the seizure is big, but we feel we’ve gained some ground here. I guess the old saying is you win the battle one war at a time.”
A part of that war is following trails.
“We look for associations, we look for patterns, we look for every bit of intelligence we’re able to gain – we’ll use that intelligence to look for another group ... we’re always aiming for something bigger.”
The Gander Drug Section was assisted by other members of the RCMP’s Gander detachment and the major crimes unit.
