Another good man, Tom Rideout, has walked away from government, and he did it like a man. He just up and told people he was quitting and walked away. Danny Williams should count his blessings. Tom Rideout, like many other Rideouts, was never at loss for words. If he wanted too, he could have made the Premier hide under his desk.
Why did Mr. Rideout quit government? He did nothing wrong except try and get more money for his district. That was no crime. That was why he was elected. The people voted him in because they wanted things done in their district. What did you expect him to do? Sit on his behind and do nothing?
Since Confederation, we have had only two good premiers. They were Tom Rideout and Beaton Tulk. They were both outport noddies. The first good Premier wasn't in long enough to do anything. But Mr. Tulk did his best. He stood firm in favour of the outports. To Mr. Tulk, Newfoundland and Labrador was on both sides of the overpass, not just on the Avalon.
We can't expect too much from Premier Williams. After all, that poor man is suffering from oil on the brains. He needs to get it siphoned off in order to reduce the pressure. Maybe then he might realize there are other things that need looking after.
Here is something that will really make you stop and think. What if someone along the Kittiwake Coast had a bad case of the hemorrhoids, and had to go to Gander to see a doctor about their diabetics or something. By the time they get in there, their hemorrhoids would be bleeding. The doctors wouldn't have time to treat them for diabetic or something. They would have something else to treat, and it would be all because of the rough roads on the Kittiwake Coast.
From what I hear, the roads in Mr. Rideout's district are worse. Now then, can you blame that former Minister for trying to get more money? No sir. We should give him a medal for doing what he did.
By the way, if we are going to elect someone who will swipe some money for us, hire a professional rogue. Someone who knows what has to be done, and the right way to go about it.
Maybe it is time to get Beaton Tulk back in the government again.
I don't think that Tom Rideout should have quit the government. What he should have done was cross the floor and sit with the Liberals or the NDP. That would have been perfect. Two strong-willed women and one stubborn man would be enough to drive Premier Williams to an early grave.
It seems to me; since Premier Williams took power we have lost some good ministers. There was Fabian Manning. He acted like a man and spoke out against the government, and was kicked out of the Tory government. Now, that was a pretty low blow to give a man for standing up for what was right.
We used to have a good woman in the Williams cabinet, Elizabeth Marshall. Anyway, because she was so smart, the Premier got a little jealous (I think) and stepped on her toes. But she was a darn good woman. She resigned at Minister of Health, but is still the MHA for Topsail. She will never get another cabinet post because Premier Williams doesn't like people smarter than him.
Loyola Sullivan was another good man. Nobody knows why he left government, but I think he was too good of a man to let Premier Williams bully him. Now, that's another kind of man we need in the government. A man who can stand up for what he believes in, and not run away.
A lot of you think that our Premier is a good man, but keep two things in mind. He is a Townie and he is a lawyer. You cannot trust one, but if you got two, it is like trying to walk across Bonavista Bay on thin ice. Just when you think you will make it, you will drown.
I wonder who will be the next one in the PC government who will drown?
Too Foolish To Talk About
Who's next?
