Batten down the hatches. I have a feeling there's a storm coming, and it won't be wind and rain. And neither will it be snow. I have this gut feeling it is going to be a paint fight between the red, blue and whatever colour the NDP is.

But I have been wrong before. You see, we have a lawyer/businessman as premier. In a business/lawyer sense, he is the smartest one we ever had. Now did you notice, I said the smartest, I didn't say the best. You see, there is a big difference between smart and best.

Too foolish to talk about - Batten down the hatches.

It's starting to feel like a red and blue tidal wave is getting ready to hit some outports in Newfoundland. The tide rose up when Trevor Taylor decided he had enough. It surprised me that he turned his back on that rundown mansion on the hill. I figured being from an outport, and from where they are trying to cut out health care, he would try and fix things up. To tell the truth, I was expecting him to cross the floor and give Dandy Dan the finger.

But he didn't.

This is what disappoints me. The people from the Northern Peninsula voted him in to work for them. Instead, when the going got tough, Trevor got going. But not against his Boss. He left for smoother water.

No doubts about it. He had a hard row to hoe. Working with Dandy Dan is not an easy job. When you have to do what you're told instead of doing what is right, it can get plenty stressful.

No doubt he was thinking about the lost of the x-rays in Lewisporte and Flower's Cove. That would have been a bitter blow to the elderly of those places. Over the years, those senior citizens have paid their pound of flesh to the government. In their golden years, they should get something back.

I know some might say that some isolated places like St. Brendan's survived without an x-ray department, but bear in mind, you don't miss what you haven't got. If that little island community had one and Premier William wanted it removed, well you might had heard about the fight over the moonshine on Flat Island.

I admire the people of Flower's Cove and Lewisporte. They are taking a firm stand. But beware. That new Minister of Health is a lawyer too. He and the premier can twist words together to make it look like they are ready lie down and die for the outports.

I say bull............. You know what I meant. Those two would rather help to get rid of the outports, not preserve them.

Just when we were getting adjusted to the lost of Trevor Taylor, another good outport politician, Paul Oram, had to leave the House of Rotten Behaviour. He blamed it on his blood pressure. Now, he could be telling the truth. I too, have trouble with my blood pressure. It doesn't take much to drive it up. Mine goes up every darn time I have to get my medicine. It costs a darn fortune and I haven't got money like the premier.

You can't expect me to have money like him. He is a businessman and God of the Rock. I'm just a poor writer.

But I never ever thought that Paul Oram would back down from anything. I used to know some of the Orams. Those that had a Brag Island background will face anything. But again, you never know. I didn't think that Tom Rideout would walk away, but he did.

That is three good outport people we lost in our government. That is too many. It would have been a lot better if they crossed the floor and joined the Liberals. The Leader of the Liberal Party could use two or three more good politicians.

I just thought of something. There is Harry Harding, a darn good man. Yet, Premier Williams doesn't have the sense to offer him a Cabinet post.

Now there are two by-election coming up. I'm praying for Yvonne Jones. That is one person who knows what she doing. Give her a few more MHAs and Newfoundland and Labrador will be in good hands.

I bet my last loonie on that.
