Coming around the corner at neck breaking speed is the greatest time of the year. Yep, the time for Jolly Old St. Nick better known here as Santa Claus.
I could have said, Jesus Christ, the Son of God. But the Holy One doesn't travel around on reindeers or on a trike. And He wasn't born in a country where it was cold enough to freeze Jack Frost. In fact, the only reason Santa survived is because he is overweight, wear six pairs of vamps, three suits of long johns and a Ski-doo suit.
I never did figured out why the Jolly Fellow was born in that cold country. And why was Jesus born in that hot treeless land? It might have been all for the best if the Good One was born in Greenspond or Cape Freels. In fact, it would have been better if He was born anywhere in Canada except Quebec or the Avalon.
To me, I find it some shocking. God sent his Son to save our souls. He should have know that was impossible. He tried to do it before with the flood and got nowhere. But He wasn't the type to give up. He figured his son could do the job.
He should have known better. They were scratching, bawling, fighting, and swearing every since the world was created. And now it is spreading all over the globe.
There are times when I wonder what life is all about. Some believe in God, some don't. And there are some who believe in religion and can't understand God. Then we got those who will spend their last dollar, trying to brainwash little kids into believing in Santa.
Look at the ones who take their little ones out to see Santa. The kids see the Jolly One and bawled out, "Look Mom, there's Santa."
But if that little boy or girl happens to see Jesus Christ in the Walmart, he or she would want to know if He was a salesman or a hippy.
Are the so-called Christians of today, good Christians? Is pouring a few beer down your throat the right way to celebrate the Lord birthday. How about all those gifts? Now to you and a lot more, those are hard questions to answer.
When Jesus was born, his father didn't go looking for a beer. He was well pleased with a good drink of water. When the Three Wise Men came to pay a visit to the Baby, they brought gifts that Mary and Joseph could use.
But look at the gifts that children receive today. Everything that is no good they can get. Instead of getting a good pair vamps to keep their feet warm, they will get a toy that teach them how to kill. When they get a bit older they will get a noise box that is louder than the Cabot Island foghorn. My God, no wonder a lot of older people went deaf.
Now when I was born in Dover (gospel truth) two gentlemen from Wesleyville dropped in. They were Boyce and Tom Winsor. They heard the loud squalling from one of the rooms. They were told it was a newborn baby and decided to have a look. After admiring me, they each put a dollar in my cradle. But maybe they didn't do it out of love. They were planning on staying the night and didn't want to hear me bawling. They were paying me to keep my mouth shut.
What is a good Christian? Is it someone who goes to Church every Sunday? Is it people who can't practice what they preach. Or is it a person who doesn't go to church but is a big believer in God.
I know people who speak the big words when in Church. They figure that a hour in God's house will guarantee their way into Heaven. But when not in Church, they act like they are possessed by the Devil. It is almost like they are living double lives - one for God and one for the Evil One.
And don't think for a minute about getting into God's house, just because you give someone a present during Christmas. God welcome those with an open heart and a open pocket book. He has no time for those with a big mouth and a closed wallet.
And as for those letters to Santa, they - hold on there. I can't take any chances.
Dear Santa.
Please send me a laptop computer for Christmas. You don't have to buy it or make it. Premier Williams could have plenty of them. But I guess he is to tight to give something. Better to ask Scott Simms or Harry Harding. Thank you
