Letter to the editor -
Dear Editor:
Mr. Simms said he is uncomfortable with the criminal records it leaves with those who happen not to have a gun registered.
If Mr. Simms had said, "I don't want guns registered" - that would be fine. He's entitled to his opinion. But the above statement is ridiculous.
The gun registry is law. It has been law for a long time, and everyone has had ample time and notice to register their guns. They don't happen to have unregistered guns; it's not some unfortunate, unavoidable accident. They have chosen not to register their guns. They have chosen to break the law. When you choose to break the law, you get a criminal record.
One would think that a legislator - one who makes the laws - would understand this fundamental principle of the legal system.
Does Mr. Simms propose that we cease enforcing our laws?
