Letter to the editor -
Dear Editor,
Thanks indeed to reporter Andrew Robinson for his article in the Feb 25, 2010 issue of The Beacon.
I omitted to state in our conversation that I believe regular exercise contributes to longevity.
In Gander, we are fortunate to have, in addition to facilities for outdoor sports, the arts and culture/community centre. For indoor exercise we have a walking track, a swimming pool and skating rink.
I have used all of these facilities in turn down through the years. One of my favorite exercises was the morning skating session for senior citizens. Regretfully, because of impaired vision, I terminated that exercise at the age of 86 years.
Finally, let me state that Gander is a healthy town in which to live. We live on a high plateau, which is 500 feet above sea level where the air is rare and pure because there is no industrial smoke to pollute it. In addition, we have excellent doctors, nurses and medical support staff at our medical building and at the James Paton Memorial Hospital.
