Letter to the editor -
Dear Editor:
We all have heard the Attorney General of Canada has requested that all Members Of Parliament show their spending accounts.
Well, as a Canadian taxpayer, why shouldn't they have to do so like everyone of us, they are certainly no different. What makes them so special that they should not be accountable? I think every auditor general in this country has been very blind to the spending activities of our politicians. The politicians have had access to a big pot of gold, the taxpayers hard earned dollars for many years. They never had to be accountable to anyone. Now, they are balking because there has to be accountability.
It is very interesting as to what might be found if the Auditor General Shelia Fraser does get to see the accounts of all members of parliament. There should be a roll back over the past 10 years at least, and they should not be granted any further allowances until they cough up now. This seems to be a hush matter since the Auditor General made such a request.
I think, it is the quietest moment in Canadian politics since this request has been made. I wonder why so quiet? Is it because all politicians have the butterfly syndrome? There needs to be accountability from every party at least every two years.
The Liberals got raked over the hot coals because the Auditor Generals were not in control. Who is really in control now, the Auditor General of Canada or the Members of Parliament? The MPs are not above the law in our Canadian Constitution.
