“There is one thing that draws people to the sport of triathlon and keeps them coming back. That moment during the race, when you feel you can go no further, and that one more step is impossible,” said Dwyer. “In that one moment you face the ultimate challenge of mind, body, and spirit and discover an inner strength you never knew existed. It’s a real metaphor for life, and everyone who crosses the finish line gets to experience this.”
With the race still over a month away, Dwyer said there isn’t much left to do. The committee will be putting postcards in everyone’s mailbox along the run route to encourage people to get out and cheer on the racers as they run by.
Besides that, Dwyer said they have to put together an athlete’s package that will give participants all of the information they need to have about the race.
In all, Dwyer said things are moving smoothly. If not for the support of local businesses, the chairman said the committee wouldn’t have been able to put together such a solid event.
“We got so much support from the business community. Sponsorship went great, and that was what abled us to put off a first-class race. We have lots of money so we’re going to have lots of signage up, everyone gets a t-shirt and swim hat, and post-race meal,” he said. “If we didn’t have that sponsorship, we would have to rely on registration funds, and if people choose not to register until the last minute, you don’t know how many people are coming or how much money you have.”
