Ben Avery also had an opportunity to be a double winner after he captured the under-14 boys’ singles crown with an 8-5 decision over Luc Briand of Marystown.
Avery’s road to victory saw the hard-hitting right-hander take down Curtis Barrett, Shane Barnes and Nick Butt, while Briand recorded wins over Michael Cooke, Dave Summers and Alex Brazil.
However, Avery was unable to match his singles’ success in doubles play, as he and partner Cooke lost 6-2 to Summers and Briand in second round doubles’ play. Summers and Briand would go on to take gold with an 8-5 victory over Barnes and Butt in the championship match.
Briand’s under-14 singles’ loss was compensated with a golden effort in the under-12 age class, as he topped Nick Butt 6-0 in the gold-medal game, and then teamed with Adam Freeborn to down Matthew Janes and Summers 6-4 in the doubles’ championship match.
In girls’ under 12 play, Emily Stokes shutout Saad 6-0 to take top spot, while her and Dyson partnered up to win the doubles’ title with a 6-3 victory over Sadd and Ghali.
Stokes was also a double gold medalist in the girls’ under-10 division, winning the singles’ title over Alex Stares, while teaming with Katie McDonald to defeat Matt Kearney and Stares in the doubles’ final.
The tournament results wrapped up with Andrew Parsons capturing the singles’ and doubles’ titles in the under-eight category, as he got by Heidi Lacosta in the singles’ final, while partnering with McDonald to take the doubles’ crown over Diego Payne and Lacosta.
There was also action in boys’ and girls’ under-18, as well as the boys’ under-16, however, as of The Beacon’s deadline, the only final result recorded was Mike Adams and Jacob Lane’s 6-0, 6-0 win over Jake McLean and Dylan Russell in the under-18 boys’ championship match.
