Bursey’s final putt last Wednesday gave him a 17-stroke victory over his nearest competitor, Ryan Langdon, to win his first Gander Golf Club Junior Championship — just one day short of a year after, as a 12-year-old, he became the youngest club champion in the men’s division.
Not only does it go down in history as a double feat for Bursey, it also keeps the junior championship plaque in the Bursey possession for a third straight year — Blair’s older brother Russell captured the honours the past two years before graduating to the senior ranks this year.
However, the junior championship didn’t come all that easy to the younger Bursey, as he found himself tied with Langdon after the first round at 76. The difference came in the second round, where Bursey fired a three-under-par 68 and Langdon recorded a 14-over-par 85 while playing in the final group along with Ryan’s older brother Chris. The older Langdon wound up third overall with a low gross of 186 on rounds of 84 and 102.
Rounding out the Division A low-gross scores were Zack Parsons (187), Jonathan Cashin (192), and Jacob Parsons (195).
