BONAVISTA BAY, NL – Eva Parsons of the Central Dragon Boat Group presented a “Paddle of Appreciation” to members of the Bonavista Bay Search and Rescue Team recently.

Team members, in conjunction with the RCMP and other volunteer boaters, provided safety boats for the “Slay the Gander” dragon boat races held on Gander Lake between June 29 and July 1.

The paddle is covered with the signatures of 86 women – all breast cancer survivors – who participated in this event.
Races were held between the Arrow Air disaster site and Apppleton, both situated on Gander Lake.

Most participants were from Newfoundland and Labrador, but others came from BC, NS, NB and ONT.  Volunteers who supported this event were rewarded by the positive attitudes of participants and great food provided at their campsite in Little Harbour.
