NLCU recently held an event, with food and live music, to help raise funds for their charities of choice.
Rod French, branch manager for NLCU in Gander, said both the Central NL Dragons and Motorcycle Ride For Dad would be recipients. The third charity has yet to be decided.
“I can’t think of anything more beneficial to do than help groups that need assistance,” said French. “It’s important to raise awareness and support for cancer survivors.”
French said final donation numbers wouldn’t be available for some time, but NLCU usually raises around $2,000 to be divided among the groups.
Members of the Central NL Dragons were on hand to help prepare food and serve drinks.
Mary Chaffey, a member of the dragon boat team, was at the event to help.
“The credit union has taken us under their wing as one of their recipients for this fundraiser. We’re very thankful,” said Chaffey.
Chaffey highlighted that events and fundraisers also help raise the profile of the club, which is looking to increase its membership.
“We’ve done fantastic (with support) from the local community,” she said. “They’ve been behind us from the beginning.”
In the past, NLCU has supported other various charities in town, including Cobb’s Pond Rotary Park Foundation.
