GANDER, NL — The appearance of Mrs. Claus with Santa in a photoshoot is rare. But for husband-and-wife team Paul and Jacquie Sinclair, this partnership is the norm.
This is the second year the Sinclairs are at Gander Mall performing as Santa and Mrs. Claus for Peek-A-Boo Mascot Services, after being discovered on Facebook.
Aside from photo commitments in the mall, the Sinclairs make appearances together in nursing homes, daycares and Santa parades.
As they have discovered, Mrs. Claus is just as popular as her husband.
“Mrs. Claus was running late one year, and when people found out she was on her way, no one wanted their pictures taken without her,” Paul said.
Some children find Santa intimidating, and “when a child won’t come to me, Mrs. Claus can bring them in,” Paul added.
The couple meet a lot of people, but there were two memorable highlights — the first, holding an eight-day-old baby last year.
“There was also that woman who had Alzheimer’s in her 80s who still believed in Santa Claus,” Jacqui said. “They bring her here to get her picture taken and we go to her house before Christmas in Glovertown. She gets super excited.”
For Paul and Jacquie, the Christmas spirit means spreading joy and bringing smiles to peoples’ faces.
It is also extended by donating all their earnings to the Children’s Wish Foundation.
“You can’t explain the feeling of walking around the mall, and seeing people light up when they see Santa and Mrs. Claus.
“Doesn’t matter if they are two or 62 – that smile lights up the faces even if the person is having the worst kind of a day,” said Paul.
