An RCMP officer will be in court later this month in Clarenville to face charges of assault, including one count of assault with a weapon.

Cpl. Steve Blackmore, who lives in Gander but works out of the Carmanville RCMP detachment, is facing nine charges of assault, one of which includes an allegation the assault was committed with a knife.

Court documents indicate the charges stem from an alleged series of incidents that occurred over the course of several years, and involved multiple female victims. The assaults are alleged to have taken place in a number of communities, including Gander, George’s Brook, Wesleyville and Carbonear.

The police officer is not on active duty at this time, and police are not offering any further comments on the matter.

Cpl. Blackmore is scheduled to appear in court June 21 in Clarenville.
