Sandy Collins, MHA for the district of Terra Nova, has mere days to prepare for his first House of Assembly appearance as a cabinet minister, as politicians are expected to head back into the legislature Monday to pass the budget and finish the spring legislative agenda.
Collins was among a series of moves that Premier Tom Marshall made to his cabinet today. He was first elected as a Member of House of Assembly on Nov. 26, 2009, and was re-elected on Oct. 11, 2011. Since Oct. 28, 2011, he has been the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health and Community Services.
Collins was the only new addition to the cabinet shuffle, as Premier Marshall moved Paul Davis to the Department of Health; Terry French to the Department of Justice; Darin King to the Department of Education; Susan Sullivan to Innovation, Business and Rural Development; and Clyde Jackman to Child, Youth and Family Services.
In a news release, Premier Marshall said, “I am pleased to welcome a new member to Cabinet, Mr. Sandy Collins. I am sure he will bring both vitality and a youthful dynamic to Cabinet and I look forward to working with him.”
Premier Marshall also announced the appointment of Clayton Forsey as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources (Forestry and Agrifoods); Tracey Perry as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Innovation, Business and Rural Development; and Vaughn Granter as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health and Community Services.
