Charlie McGrath couldn’t wait to start the New Year. As a result he became the first baby born in the Central Health region in 2017.
He wasn’t due until Jan. 4, however, his mother Mellina Brenton, of Gander, went into labour at 10 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.
Charlie was born at James Paton Memorial Hospital 4:16 a.m. on Jan. 1, weighing in at five pounds and 14 ounces.
To make sure Charlie gets home safe, the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association (NLMA) donated an infant car seat to the family, something the Association does for each of the first babies born in 2017 at the 10 NL hospitals that perform routine deliveries.
