The Office to Advance Women Apprentices held an event this week to recognize 119 women who have reached their Red or Blue Seal status and become journeypersons in their trades.
Finance Minister Cathy Bennett, the minister responsible for the Status of Women, was scheduled to attend the event and spoke about it in the House of Assembly Wednesday.
Bennett pointed out the office now has over 1,600 tradeswomen registered in their database.
“I would like to take this opportunity to encourage more women to step up and consider a career in the skilled trades which in turn will help create a greater gender balance in Newfoundland and Labrador and across the country,” she said.
While much has been accomplished in moving towards gender diversity in the workforce, there’s still much more to do, Bennett said.
