The Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador has offered one more day for anyone interested to sign up as a supporter.

The Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador has offered one more day for anyone interested to sign up as a supporter, if they hope to cast a vote in the PC leadership race.

The deadline was set for Jan. 28.

It is now Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 5 p.m.

According to party leadership, the extension is in response to technical issues, involving intermittent outages over the weekend, limiting membership sign-up. There was no further description of the issue in the statement issued this morning.

Wakeham has less time than expected to run for P.C. leadership

“I am pleased to see such an interest in our party over the course of this leadership campaign,” said president Graydon Pelley in the release.

“Thousands of Newfoundland and Labradorians have come forward to participate in our leadership process with the hope of defeating the current Liberal government in 2019. While a system outage is not ideal, it speaks to the intense level of interest over the past few days and the desire for change in this province.”

There are two candidates in the race: Tony Wakeham and Ches Crosbie.

The deadline for the sign-up of new PC members and supporters for the vote was previously raised by Wakeham, who had originally misunderstood the date to be the end of February.

The February date is when applications are expected to be reviewed and either approved or rejected.

Anyone interested in receiving a ballot for the vote is required to go through the party process, and can do so at: https://crm.pcpartynl.ca/membership/

Anyone experiencing problems is encouraged to contact the party office at 709-753-6043.

The party is willing to extend the sign-up deadline if further issues are identified.
