Dynamite found in Twillingate shed disposed of without incident

TWILLINGATE, NL - Two sticks of suspected dynamite, found in a shed in the Twillingate area, were disposed of Wednesday night without incident by the RCMP’s Explosive Disposal Unit.

The RCMP detachment in Twillingate was contacted around noon Wednesday by a resident who discovered what looked like two sticks of dynamite in a shed on residential property in Durrell.

Upon arrival, the RCMP located the suspected dynamite, which appeared to be in deteriorated condition.

The area was cordoned off and a number of homes in the immediate area evacuated.

The RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit arrived in the area Wednesday night. The RCMP said this isn’t suspected to be connected to any criminal matter.

The Twillingate RCMP said in a news release this morning, it would like to thank the Twillingate Volunteer Fire Department and the Salvation Army for their assistance in this incident.
