Silently protesting in Buchans

The people of Buchans are keeping their displeasure over the pending closure of the public library in the forefront.

Approximately 50 people came out for a "Silent Rally" in front of the school/library entrance Wednesday morning.

Supporters of the Buchans Public Library and Lakeside Academy School displayed signs protesting the recent announcement that the library would be closing in October.

From the smallest child who attends the story time, to those who use the library Community Access Program site computers to keep in touch with family and friends, to students who during their school days need a functioning library to do research for school projects, they each expressed a desire to keep the library open.

Others were protesting the recent cuts to the teaching staff at Lakeside Academy. Next school year there will be three fewer teachers, with the loss being absorbed by students having to take courses through distance learning.
