Dear Editor: We need more done to reduce moose-vehicle accidents in this province.
My husband was a recent survivor last week after a collision with a moose while on duty.
Police officers have jobs that require them to be on highways at all hours attending to emergencies.
The big nightmare of a policeman at the door in the dead of night ringing the doorbell — and not being my husband who forgot his key, but another member of the RCMP telling me that mine was in an accident.
We are so thankful to everyone who responded so quickly to him that night.
If it were not for the large vehicle he was driving at the time, I may have been looking into a funeral arrangement.
My heart goes out to those who have lost loved ones due to these large creatures.
Cut back trees, more fencing, extend the hunt season, more licences — whatever it takes to drop the statistics and save lives.
I am so grateful my husband is here today at home to recover.
More must be done to make highways safer for everyone.
