Raynham Ave extension

This is a accident waiting to happen, on different levels, not to mention the fact that the Town of Gander should be ashamed to say it is a development.

Why does the council not have the guts to give this developer 48 hours to fix/upgrade with class A, or whatever, or do it and send them the bill.

It is not a sufficient answer to say that it is not the responsibility of the town as the developer is not completed - have you driven there lately? Who cleared the snow this winter, the council or the developer? If the answer is the council, does that not make the town responsible for the upgrading as well? If I hit that manhole protruding about six inches out of the ground just before the Gander Bay highway and ruin a tire and rim, where do I send the bill for the new tire? Who's job is it to put up a stop sign on this above mentioned corner of Raynham and Gander Bay highway? And I can go on? Where is our administration? Asleep apparently.

Some towns actually require developers to pave the developments in the first year. Surfacing with Class A is not asking much! I think this should be written into law starting with the tender for development this year.

TCH through Gander

As for the Trans Canada Highway through Gander, well, where are our municipal police. Instead of driving with two municipal officers in the vehicle, why not have them spend more time individually ticketing the TCH through Gander.

Make the TCH through Gander famous for speed enforcement. The speeds on that stretch are awful. If you ticketed this stretch as it should, our municipal taxes could quite possibly drop due to the revenues generated. As a matter of fact, move the highway, like Corner Brook, Pasadena, GFW and so on.

I think it is time to have a public forum on the future of this stretch of TCH. Can we expect the Public Safety Human Resources Committee to follow through here and set a date for a public meeting? What better way to hear the voices of the town.

Also, if you drive east from the North Atlantic station on the highway you will notice that the posted speed increases back to highway speed about a 1/2 kilometre before the most easterly entrance to Gander. This seems again wrong, and, in fact, plain idiotic. Don't you think that the speed should increase east of this intersection and not west of it?

It's time for this council to address this again before more people are killed. It's not a matter of if, rather when.

And to think this council is considering a seniors' residence development off this stretch. If this is allowed to happen, oh well, you see where I am going.
