The time has come for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to stand up and roar like lions instead of purring like pussycats. We have been trod on enough.

Did you know what that so-called movie starlet, Bridgett something or another, went and done? She asked Barrack Obama, the president of the United States, to speak up against the seal hunt.

Too foolish to talk about -

The time has come for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to stand up and roar like lions instead of purring like pussycats. We have been trod on enough.

Did you know what that so-called movie starlet, Bridgett something or another, went and done? She asked Barrack Obama, the president of the United States, to speak up against the seal hunt.

I don't know the response from the president, but God in Heaven, I hope he sent that woman to the nursing home.

Now, I like elderly women. After all, I'll soon be on top of the hill myself. And I will say this. No matter how old I get, I won't be shooting of my mouth about those who are killing seals for a living.

Also, I won't be complaining about those who kill pigs, sheep, cows, chickens and hundreds of other species. Yes, it all goes on, but because the killers are not Newfies, no one cares. My God, if we killed a louse, some soul sick animal lover would complain.

I like the president of the United States. But I can't figure out why he went to Ottawa. Certainly not to see Prime Minister Harper. I mean, if you're important, you should go and meet important people. To me Prime Minister Harper is about as important as a piece of kelp, washed in on the beach. If President Obama wanted to improve his image, he should have came to Newfoundland. He could have stopped in Gander, and had a good meal of turrs. Then he could went on a drive around the Loop and learned about the greatest people on earth.

But hard times are coming to the people on the Loop and on the Northeast coast. This year, I have a feeling that the fishery is going to be in trouble. According to the news, the seal fishery is going to be down again. They are saying there are no markets for the pelts.

And with the world in a recession, who will buy the fish product? We'll be only able to sell at rock bottom prices. Now this leads to another problem. What if the price of our products is down and the price of fuel is up? I'm no longer a fisherman, but I fear for the fishermen of the Northeast coast.

What will Prince Williams - sorry, I mean Premier Williams do for the Northeast coast. I have the feeling he will just sit there and twiddle his thumbs while waiting for our communities to die. He is not going to jump up and shout, "We will help the fishery."

What he will do is jump up and say oil is money. Yes, oil is money, but only for the ones who already have money. Those who have money to invest in oil will have money because it is all being gouged out of the working poor.

Poor old Premier Williams has oil on the brains. Now, he is not poor in money, just poor in kindness and goodwill. He has a heart, but it is made out of lead instead of gold. Know what will happen in the future? Well, I'll tell you. If we run out of oil of our coast, he will ask some oilrig to drill into his head. After all, every little drop counts.

Premier Williams is not going to do much to help outport Newfoundland and the Labrador. Neither is the Prime Minister. If we are going to survive, we have to stand on our own two feet. We must stand up and make ourselves heard.

We can take lessons from the late Boyd Way. He was a man who had the nerve to try and get things started. He made this area into a place of prosperity.

Another good example is Centreville. It started in the middle of nowhere. Look at it today. It is a town that any Newfoundlander can take pride in.

Look at Newtown, a little place in Bonavista Bay. This place has one of the best, if not the best, tourist attractions on our shore the Barbour Heritage Site. It was started by a group who wanted something, and by God, they got it.

And at the beginning, stupid people like me thought it was foolishness.

I have to admit that Boyd way did more for the fishermen of Bonavista Bay than Premier Williams could ever do until he is defeated in the next election.
In a number of my published writings which you often make reference to A Man For The Fishermen, Boyd Way, 1991, published in the Gander Beacon, you would not even be writing if it was not for him.

I think it is not right to paint other politicians with the same tar brush as we use for Danny Williams. Danny was your prince, now he is your ghost. You have confused matters with two many brushes to do one job.

There is still hope for the Seal fishery and the cod. I don,t think it is wise to jump to conclusion when your facts are not accurate, and only mere speculation on your part. One has to be careful in not misleading the general public .

I have confidence in our MHA Harry Harding who understands the fishery and the fishermen, who has the confidence of the people, and will do everything to see that people are not led down the garden path with false visions.

President Obama was not approached by Bridget Bardot to stop the Seal hunt. he already noted that he would not get involved in Canadian affairs.

Newfoundlanders are being heard globally, and they are considered as the most hard working, artistic, and hospitable people on this earth. One has to travel further that the old stage and backyard shed to understand what Newfoundlanders are doing and saying, and how others feel about them.

Hats of to Harry Harding and the late Boyd Way..
