PICTOU - RCMP are stepping up traffic enforcement in downtown Pictou following concerns that motorists aren't obeying rules of the road.
The concerns came from Pictou's police advisory board which flagged Denoon Street, Prince Street, Haliburton Road, Faukland Street and Cottage Street as problem areas.
RCMP are also asking for the public's assistance in reporting traffic related offences.

Personally can't wait until the town gets rid of the RCMP in favor of town police. THE ONLY TIME you see the RCMP in Pictou is at Tim's OR they are hiding in wait for someone to roll through the 3 way stop. In actual fact the 3 way stop is a joke anyway because the STOP line is mid intersection!! Give it up and find the a$$hole who continues to light the fires in Pictou or the people who are actually SPEEDING through town but you won't find them at the stop sign, people tend to build up speed to enter the rotary. But wait, all of the problems happen after you close up shop and transfer all the trouble calls through Truro. The RCMP are a joke!

Everywhere motorists don't obey the rules of the road. I almost got it on a crosswalk in Westville because some snubbed nosed woman was chatting to her co pilot and didn't see me in the middle of the crosswalk. It's pathetic no one cares about others anymore. She didn't look too sorry, gave me dirty looks actually.

money hungry should realize that just because the rcmp office is located in Pictou doesn't mean they are there just for them. There territory stretches well into the county as far as River John. They are doing the best they can with the man power they have.

It's about time! I live right on Denoon street and the vehicles that go flying by here at night is crazy. Revving their engines and just flying up and down the street, someone is going to be killed.....not hard to catch them, sit on any side street and you'll see them flying down the road!

Well then maybe county resident you see them more than the citizens of Pictou do. Hopefully, you don't have someone going around lighting buildings on fire where you live. Because in Pictou they can only catch them if they light the fire between 8-4, Monday to Friday! Too bad the TOWN of Pictou pays for them to patrol your community and not MINE!!

A shiretown is a town that holds the administrative/government seat for a region such as a county (shire is old English for county).
