The House voted Monday to send a resolution to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the House Homeland Security Committee.

The final vote was 209-201, with eight Republicans voting with Democrats.

The move was a late shift by Democrats, who did not try to kill the resolution outright, but allowed the jurisdictional panel to continue their ongoing investigation.

Georgia’s GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green last week filed a privilege motion to impeach the mayor, forcing GOP leadership to schedule the move by Tuesday.

Since taking back the House majority, Republicans have long sought to impeach Mayorgas over his handling of the Department of Homeland Security and the US border with Mexico. Green’s latest move comes as Republicans continue to push for tougher border security provisions in any accompanying aid package.
