Nvidia’s new TLSS 3.5 works to improve the quality of ray tracing on all RTX GPUs

Nvidia is introducing DLSS 3.5 this fall, a new AI-powered ray restoration technique designed to improve the quality of ray tracing. Unlike TLSS 3’s frame generation, which was limited to just RTX 40-series GPUs, TLSS 3.5 will add ray tracing to all RTX-series GPUs going up to the RTX 20 series.

Nvidia is primarily targeting DLSS 3.5 at games, often referred to as full ray tracing, as opposed to titles that use ray tracing for selected elements such as shadows or reflections. Cyberpunk 2077 It will also get support for DLSS 3.5 Phantom Liberty The DLC is releasing on September 26, and it also adds the route tracking that was previewed earlier this year. Alan Wake 2 October 27th will launch with DLSS 3.5 and full ray tracing. Portal with RTX DLSS is getting a 3.5 update this fall.

DLSS currently uses hand-tuned denominators to fill in the missing pixels for each lighting pass in a ray-traced scene. This may result in some loss of color accuracy, inaccurate lighting, and occasional ghosting. Nvidia is trying to improve on this approach by using an AI-powered network that it claims produces high-quality pixels.

While DLSS 3.5 benefits typical ray-traced games in terms of image quality and performance, Nvidia says you’ll get more performance benefits with path-traced content. Like more intense ray-tracing games Cyberpunk 2077 And Alan Wake 2 Both overall image quality and performance will benefit greatly from DLSS 3.5.

DLSS 3.5 is trained on five times more data than DLSS 3, and in supported games, it’s available as a standalone option, just like DLSS 3’s frame generation system.

Nvidia’s latest DLSS 3.5 release isn’t just limited to games. Creators can use DLSS 3.5 in 3D editing applications such as Chaos Vantage, D5 Render and Nvidia Omniverse. DLSS 3.5 will help deliver high-quality and accurate render previews in these applications.

It’s going to take some time for developers to implement TLSS 3.5 into games, especially where it’s most useful in fully ray-traced titles. Meanwhile, DLSS 3 is still being added to mainstream games. Fortnite DLSS 3 is getting an update this fall, allowing RTX 40-series owners to enable frame generation to boost frame rates. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 DLSS will support 3 and Reflex when released on November 10th.

AMD is also said to be introducing FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR3) at Gamescom this week. The latest iteration of AMD’s high-end technology is said to have initiated together with Starfield Next month.
